Koedo Kofu Summer Festival 2026: Dates and Basic Information

The “Koedo Kofu Summer Festival” offers a lively atmosphere reminiscent of an Edo-period castle town. In 2026, another fantastic event will be held to further enliven Kofu’s hot summer. First, let’s introduce the essential information such as the dates, times, and venues, which are important for planning your outing.
When is the 2026 Koedo Kofu Summer Festival? Check the time and location.
The 8th Koedo Kofu Summer Festival in 2026 will be held on August 11th (Tuesday, a national holiday). The festival is divided into a main venue and a sub-venue, each with different start times and events. Please adjust your timing to match the events you wish to attend.
We have summarized the detailed times and locations in an easy-to-understand table.
| Venue division | Specific location | Event time |
|---|---|---|
| Main venue | Maizuru Castle Park (Kofu Castle Ruins) | 15:00〜21:00 |
| Main venue | Kofu Kameya Theater, Koedo Kofu Hanakoji | 11:00〜21:00 |
| Sub-venue | Maizuru Castle Park South Lawn Area, Yamanashi Prefectural Government Building Fountain Plaza | 11:00〜17:00 |
How to access the main venue and sub-venues
The venue, Maizuru Castle Park, and surrounding facilities are very easily accessible from Kofu Station. We will explain how to get there by train and by car.
If you use the train
It’s about a 5-minute walk from the south exit of JR Kofu Station to the nearest entrance to Maizuru Castle Park, but it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk through the park to the main venue, “Jiyu Hiroba (Kameyu Bridge side)”. Since there are many slopes and stairs in Maizuru Castle Park, if you are heading to Jiyu Hiroba, it is recommended to walk along the main road and enter from the Kaji Kuruwa Gate or Kameyu Bridge side rather than taking a route through the park.
From Jiyu Hiroba, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the other main venues, “Kofu Kameya-za” and “Koedo Kofu Hanakoji.”
If you are using a car
The venue is approximately a 15-minute drive from the Kofu-Showa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. Traffic congestion is expected on surrounding roads on the day of the event, so please allow ample time for your journey.

Walking around in something different than usual, along with taking advantage of special offers, will further enhance the festive atmosphere. Here are some tips on what to wear to make the festival more comfortable and enjoyable.
Use a yukata rental service
Even if you find it difficult to put on a yukata yourself or don’t own one, there’s no need to worry. Local kimono shops and other businesses offer yukata rental and dressing services. For example, Kyo-Gofuku Fujiya, a kimono specialty store in Kofu City, offers yukata rental plans tailored to the day of the festival. If you make a reservation in advance, you can go out empty-handed and be transformed into a beautiful yukata-clad person. For details, please check the Kyo-Gofuku Fujiya official website .
Focus on heat countermeasures and ease of walking.
High temperatures continue into the evenings during the summer. When going out in traditional Japanese clothing, keep the following points in mind to stay comfortable.
| Items to prepare | Tips for a comfortable stay |
|---|---|
| Comfortable sandals or clogs | New geta (wooden clogs) can easily cause foot pain, so it’s best to choose a pair you’re already used to wearing, or have some bandages on hand. |
| Handheld fan or paper fan | Having an item that provides a breeze can help you stay cool even in crowded places. |
| Drinking water and towels | It’s a good idea to carry a water bottle or reusable bottle with you so you can stay hydrated. |
Dress in your favorite yukata and fully enjoy the charming atmosphere of this castle town.
